EEG Gamma Band Power

Integrate supplied uniform PSD bins by sum(PSD × binWidth), selecting centers in [30, 45) Hz under the MNE band convention. The upper endpoint is excluded and unprovided frequencies contribute no power; no FFT or clinical interpretation is performed.

Description

Gamma band power integrates supplied spectral density over selected frequency bins.

Gamma band power integrates supplied spectral density over selected frequency bins. The chosen 30–45 Hz interval is a convention, and upstream PSD estimation determines the measurement basis.1

Integrate supplied uniform PSD bins by sum(PSD × binWidth), selecting centers in [30, 45) Hz under the MNE band convention. The upper endpoint is excluded and unprovided frequencies contribute no power; no FFT or clinical interpretation is performed.

When to use EEG Gamma Band Power

Use this tool to integrate supplied uniform PSD bins by sum(PSD × binWidth), selecting centers in [30, 45) Hz under the MNE band convention. The upper endpoint is excluded and unprovided frequencies contribute no power; no FFT or clinical interpretation is performed.

Prepare the task-specific rates, comparable response-time means, identified spike train, processed ERP or estimated spectra requested. Confirm units, preprocessing, sample pairing and caller-fitted model coefficients.

How to use EEG Gamma Band Power and understand its results

  1. Prepare the task-specific rates, comparable response-time means, identified spike train, processed ERP or estimated spectra requested. Confirm units, preprocessing, sample pairing and caller-fitted model coefficients.
  2. Enter frequenciesHz, psdUv2PerHz, binWidthHz using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read powerUv2. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
frequenciesHzAscending nonnegative frequency bin centers. (Hz)list of number; minimum: 0; minimum entries: 1; maximum entries: 100000Required
psdUv2PerHzNonnegative one-sided EEG power spectral density for each bin. (uV^2/Hz)list of number; minimum: 0; minimum entries: 1; maximum entries: 100000Required
binWidthHzUniform bin spacing and integration width. (Hz)number; strictly above: 0Required

Enter aligned nonempty strictly ascending nonnegative frequency centers and nonnegative one-sided PSD in µV²/Hz, plus positive uniform bin width. Consecutive spacing must match that width within numeric tolerance. Sum full bins whose centers lie in [30,45) Hz; missing in-band centers contribute nothing. Return µV², including zero if no selected power is present. Rescale the sum to reduce intermediate overflow.

powerUv2=Σ(PSD_i×binWidthHz) for centers 30≤frequency_i<45

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The upper boundary is excluded. A bin is included by its center rather than partial-edge overlap. One bin is allowed without a spacing comparison. No raw EEG, FFT, relative-power normalization, full-band coverage check or clinical interpretation is provided.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use EEG Beta Band Power: Integrate supplied uniform PSD bins by sum(PSD × binWidth), selecting centers in [12, 30) Hz under the MNE band convention. The upper endpoint is excluded and unprovided frequencies contribute no power; no FFT or clinical interpretation is performed. For a complementary task, use EEG Alpha Band Power: Integrate supplied uniform PSD bins by sum(PSD × binWidth), selecting centers in [8, 12) Hz under the MNE band convention. The upper endpoint is excluded and unprovided frequencies contribute no power; no FFT or clinical interpretation is performed.
