Big Five Personality Score Calculator
Actual five-factor instrument score aggregation under independently verified item-factor and reversal key on declared1–5response scale. Factor indices in caller declared order; missing factor mean has0placeholder with availability flag0, not an inferred trait. Not a universal BigFiveinventory, diagnosis or prediction of behavior; illustrative key is not validated.
Description
Big Five scores depend on an adopted item-to-factor map and reverse key.
Big Five scores depend on an adopted item-to-factor map and reverse key.1
A mean from known items is different from a fully administered or normed factor score.
When to use Big Five Personality Score Calculator
Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the assessment or recording protocol, units, instrument version and independently applicable reference or calibration.
How to use Big Five Personality Score Calculator and understand its results
- Establish the assessment or recording protocol, units, instrument version and independently applicable reference or calibration.
- Enter callerVerifiedSource, callerVerifiedContext, callerVerifiedAsOfDate, independentlyRecordedItemScores, callerVerifiedFactorIndices, callerVerifiedReverseFlags, itemKnownFlags, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.knownFactorMeans, result.knownFactorMeanAvailableFlags, result.unknownItemIndices. Use the units and sign conventions below. Review unresolved records and any possible bounds separately from known results.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| callerVerifiedSource | Caller verified source; supplied assertion, not independently verified; output retention depends on the rules below | string | Required |
| callerVerifiedContext | Caller verified context; supplied assertion, not independently verified; output retention depends on the rules below | string | Required |
| callerVerifiedAsOfDate | Caller verified as of date; real Gregorian YYYY-MM-DD date for the supplied record | string | Required |
| independentlyRecordedItemScores | Independently recorded item scores | list of number | Required |
| callerVerifiedFactorIndices | Caller verified factor indices | list of number | Required |
| callerVerifiedReverseFlags | Caller verified reverse flags | list of number | Required |
| itemKnownFlags | Item known flags; binary 1 means the matched observation is known, 0 means unknown | list of number | Required |
Validate nonblank source/context and real Gregorian as-of date. Require nonempty aligned integer scores 1–5, factor indices 0–4 and binary reverse/known flags; every factor index must be represented by at least one supplied item. Reverse-keyed known scores become 6−score. Average known scores independently within each factor. A factor with no known items gets placeholder mean 0 and availability flag 0; it is not a zero trait score. Return zero-based unknown item indices. Provenance is checked but not returned.
keyedScore=reverse ? 6−score : score; factorMean_f=mean(known keyed scores in factor f), or placeholder 0 with availability=0 Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Structured result; its nested fields below contain the actual calculation or selected reference | object |
| result.knownFactorMeans | Five means in caller factor-index order 0–4, using known reverse-keyed items; unavailable factors use placeholder zero | list |
| result.knownFactorMeanAvailableFlags | Five binary flags aligned with factor means; 1 means at least one known item, 0 means unavailable | list |
| result.unknownItemIndices | Zero-based positions of items marked unknown | list |

} Limitations and assumptions
Actual acquisition, assessment protocol, instrument version and calibration determine applicability. The tool does not examine a person, classify images, administer a questionnaire or choose diagnostic cutoffs.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use Neuropsych Percentile Calculator: A neuropsychological percentile locates a raw score within a matched normative sample. For a complementary comparison, use IQ From Raw Score Calculator: IQ conversion from raw score requires an applicable instrument and normative calibration.
