QUIC Short Header Keyphase Bit Tool

Compute quic short header keyphase bit from explicit bounded inputs.

Description

Return bit two as keyPhase and bit five as a Boolean spin value.

QUIC uses compact fields and truncated packet numbers. Their interpretation depends on the unprotected header bits and connection state; decoding a number does not authenticate a packet.

Return bit two as keyPhase and bit five as a Boolean spin value.

When to use this tool

Use QUIC Short Header Keyphase Bit when you need one QUIC field interpretation from already available bytes or state.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter octet. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read keyPhase, spin. Inspect spin before interpreting the associated values.

Require the top two octet bits to equal binary 01. Return bit two as keyPhase and bit five as a Boolean spin value.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

Limitations and assumptions

  • Header protection must already have been handled where applicable; this does not decrypt or authenticate a packet.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete QUIC implementation to remove header protection, track packet state, and authenticate payloads.
