Description
Convert transverseCoordinate to a starboard-positive coordinate by retaining or negating it according to positiveSide.
Port and starboard are vessel-relative directions. A transverse coordinate's sign depends on which side the source convention calls positive.

When to use this tool
Use Nautical: Vessel Port Star Board Coordinate Sign when you need to translate a stated vessel transverse sign convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter transverseCoordinate, positiveSide. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Convert transverseCoordinate to a starboard-positive coordinate by retaining or negating it according to positiveSide. Label zero centerline and nonzero values by side.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| transverseCoordinate | Transverse Coordinate | Required. Finite number. |
| positiveSide | Positive Side | Required. Text; one of "port", "starboard". Implementation limit: 8192 Unicode code points and 16384 UTF-16 code units. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Result | Required. Object. |
| result.starboardPositiveCoordinate | Starboard Positive Coordinate | Calculated result member: number. |
| result.side | Side | Calculated result member: string. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This changes a sign convention only; vessel heading and geographic coordinates are not transformed.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Preserve the source coordinate frame and use a full spatial transformation when heading or global position is involved.
