Vessel Displacement Fresh Salt Density Factor Tool

Rescale displaced mass at an unchanged immersed volume; equilibrium draft adjustment is excluded.

Loading tool…

Description

Multiply nonnegative oldDisplacement by newDensity / oldDensity and return that ratio.

Vessel draft, loading moments, and free-surface terms describe different parts of hydrostatic behavior. Their signs, reference positions, and dimensional bases must be stated before comparison.

Multiply nonnegative oldDisplacement by newDensity / oldDensity and return that ratio.

When to use this tool

Use Vessel Displacement Fresh Salt Density Factor when you need a supplied trim, loading, or hydrostatic component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter oldDisplacement, oldDensity, newDensity. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read newDisplacement, ratio. Use the output convention below.

Multiply nonnegative oldDisplacement by newDensity / oldDensity and return that ratio. Both densities must be positive and share a unit.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
oldDisplacementNonnegative displacement mass at the original density, with displaced volume held fixed.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.
oldDensityOld DensityRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
newDensityNew DensityRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
newDisplacementDisplacement mass scaled to newDensity at fixed displaced volume.Required. Finite number.
ratioDimensionless ratio when numerator and denominator use compatible units.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This scales mass displacement for a fixed displaced volume; it does not solve the new draft of a fixed-mass vessel.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult vessel-specific hydrostatic and stability information under the relevant loading condition for a complete assessment.
