Nautical: Cargo Tank Ullage Sounding Pair Tool

Crosswalk ideal vertical tank ullage/sounding using an explicit common top-to-bottom reference height; excludes trim, list, calibration and cargo volume.

Description

Keep the supplied ullage or sounding and subtract it from tankHeight for the other measure.

A sample or tank volume budget distinguishes gross volume, unavailable volume, and the amount available for a chosen purpose. Distance-based level readings require a known reference.

Keep the supplied ullage or sounding and subtract it from tankHeight for the other measure.

When to use this tool

Use Nautical: Cargo Tank Ullage Sounding Pair when you need a simple volume or level accounting step.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter tankHeight, measuredDistance, measurement. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require a positive tankHeight and measuredDistance within its height. Keep the supplied ullage or sounding and subtract it from tankHeight for the other measure.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes both distances use the same straight vertical reference; no tank calibration, trim correction, or volume is calculated.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated measurements and the relevant container geometry or sampling protocol for a complete assessment.
