Nautical: Anchor Rode Angle Geometric Tool

Compute ideal taut straight-rode geometry only, ignoring catenary, surge, load and holding; not anchor-sizing or navigation safety advice.

Description

Return the horizontal leg by the Pythagorean relation and asin(vertical / length) converted to degrees.

A straight line, a slack line, and an ideal catenary have different geometries. Geometric projection alone does not determine tension, holding capacity, or safe anchoring conditions.

Return the horizontal leg by the Pythagorean relation and asin(vertical / length) converted to degrees.

When to use this tool

Use Nautical: Anchor Rode Angle Geometric when you need a geometric line or scope term with explicit assumptions.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter straightRodeLength, verticalSeparation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require positive straightRodeLength and verticalSeparation between zero and that length. Return the horizontal leg by the Pythagorean relation and asin(vertical / length) converted to degrees.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The straight, taut rode assumption excludes catenary sag, tide changes, stretch, and anchor holding capacity.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated mooring or anchoring analysis that includes line properties, loading, seabed contact, and environmental conditions.
