SMS Multiband Factor

Plan spatially interleaved simultaneous-slice groups and retain smaller tail groups; CAIPI shifts, RF peak power and sequence timing are external.

Description

Multiband planning groups slice indexes for simultaneous acquisition.

Multiband planning groups slice indexes for simultaneous acquisition. Spreading indexes across groups gives an explicit interleaved grouping convention.

The tool returns simultaneousSliceGroups (simultaneous slice groups); groupCount (group count). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.

When to use SMS Multiband Factor

Use SMS Multiband Factor when you already have sliceCount, multibandFactor and want simultaneousSliceGroups, groupCount. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.

How to use SMS Multiband Factor and understand its results

  1. Enter sliceCount, multibandFactor using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
  2. Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
  3. Read simultaneousSliceGroups, groupCount. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
  4. Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
Input fieldMeaningValue type and boundsRequirement
sliceCountSlice countintegerRequired
multibandFactorMultiband factorintegerRequired

Use positive integer counts within at most 128 groups and 128 slices per group. Return zero-based slice indexes; final groups may contain fewer slices.

groupCount = ceil(sliceCount/multibandFactor); group[i] = i+j×groupCount below sliceCount

The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Limitations and assumptions

This is an index plan, without RF pulse construction, geometric slice separation or leakage validation.

Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Simultaneous Multi-Slice Leakage: Audit leakage fractions from measured source-to-target slice transfer magnitudes; source rows require consistent calibration and this is not a slice-unmixing algorithm. Repetition Time TR: Budget sequential nonoverlapping slice blocks plus recovery time within TR; simultaneous or interleaved waveform schedules are not inferred.
