Shotcrete Volume
Estimate placed and batch volumes with rebound as a fraction of delivered batch; support adequacy is external.
Description
Shotcrete volume combines surface coverage with thickness and extra overbreak volume.
Shotcrete volume combines surface coverage with thickness and extra overbreak volume. Rebound loss raises the batch volume needed to achieve a given in-place amount.
The tool returns inPlaceVolumeM3 (in place volume m3); requiredBatchVolumeM3 (required batch volume m3). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use Shotcrete Volume
Use Shotcrete Volume when you already have surfaceAreasM2, thicknessesMm, reboundLossFraction, overbreakExtraVolumeM3 and want inPlaceVolumeM3, requiredBatchVolumeM3. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use Shotcrete Volume and understand its results
- Enter surfaceAreasM2, thicknessesMm, reboundLossFraction, overbreakExtraVolumeM3 using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read inPlaceVolumeM3, requiredBatchVolumeM3. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| surfaceAreasM2 | Surface areas m2 | list of number | Required |
| thicknessesMm | Thicknesses mm | list of number | Required |
| reboundLossFraction | Rebound loss fraction | number | Required |
| overbreakExtraVolumeM3 | Overbreak extra volume m3 | number | Required |
Use aligned nonnegative areas and thicknesses, nonnegative extra volume and rebound in [0,1).
inPlace = ΣareaM²×thicknessMm/1000+overbreak; batch = inPlace/(1−reboundFraction) The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

This is a volume estimate, not a structural design. Waste, pump losses and irregular geometry must be supplied separately if relevant.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Shotcrete Thickness: Screen ideal cylindrical shotcrete membrane thickness by pressure×radius/allowable stress; excludes bending, early-age strength, bond and buckling. Rock Bolt Length: Convert normal loosened-zone depth to bolt path and add caller anchorage/exposed allowances; no anchorage strength or support certification.
