Recovery Percentage

Balance metal recovery across multiple disjoint dry product streams; unlike analytical spike recovery, this checks both process mass and contained-metal feasibility.

Description

Metal recovery tracks contained constituent mass in products relative to the feed.

Metal recovery tracks contained constituent mass in products relative to the feed. Product tonnage alone does not describe metal recovery when assays differ.

The tool returns productMetalRecoveriesPercent (product metal recoveries percent); totalMetalRecoveryPercent (total metal recovery percent); unrecoveredMetalTonnes (unrecovered metal tonnes). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.

When to use Recovery Percentage

Use Recovery Percentage when you already have feedDryTonnes, feedAssayFraction, productDryTonnes, productAssayFractions and want productMetalRecoveriesPercent, totalMetalRecoveryPercent, unrecoveredMetalTonnes. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.

How to use Recovery Percentage and understand its results

  1. Enter feedDryTonnes, feedAssayFraction, productDryTonnes, productAssayFractions using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
  2. Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
  3. Read productMetalRecoveriesPercent, totalMetalRecoveryPercent, unrecoveredMetalTonnes. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
  4. Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.

Use positive feed mass and assay, aligned nonnegative product masses and assay fractions. Reject product mass above feed or total metal recovery above one.

productMetal = productTonnes×assay; recovery% = 100×productMetal/(feedTonnes×feedAssay)

The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Limitations and assumptions

Assays must describe the same constituent on a dry basis. No measurement reconciliation, dissolved streams or accounting uncertainty is included.

Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Tailings Grade: Solve residual tailings mass and assay from a closed dry feed/concentrate balance; impossible negative or above-one assays return errors. Overall Recovery: Propagate inventory through serial conditional recoveries and expose losses; parallel-stream recoveries must not be multiplied.
