Mass Pull

Calculate dry mass pull from separate wet masses and moisture assays; unlike assay-inferred concentration ratio, this uses measured moisture-corrected quantities.

Description

Mass pull is the fraction of feed mass reporting to concentrate.

Mass pull is the fraction of feed mass reporting to concentrate. Separate moisture measurements allow wet feed and concentrate quantities to be compared as dry solids.1

The tool returns concentrateDryTonnes, feedDryTonnes, dryMassPullPercent. The computation uses supplied observations and parameters rather than acquiring measurements.

When to use Mass Pull

Use this for the following task: Calculate dry mass pull from separate wet masses and moisture assays; unlike assay-inferred concentration ratio, this uses measured moisture-corrected quantities. Prepare observations and calibration parameters on the same unit and reporting basis.

How to use Mass Pull and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured quantities and supplied model parameters. Match the units and align paired lists before calculating.
  2. Enter concentrateWetTonnes, concentrateMoistureFraction, feedWetTonnes, feedMoistureFraction according to the field table, then run the tool.
  3. Read concentrateDryTonnes, feedDryTonnes, dryMassPullPercent. Use the calculation below to interpret the selected mean or the model’s signs, units and comparison flags.
  4. Review the supplied assumptions and calibration before comparing or reporting the result.

Use nonnegative concentrate mass, positive wet feed and moisture fractions in [0,1]. Require positive dry feed and dry concentrate no greater than dry feed.

dry mass = wet mass×(1−moisture); mass pull% = 100×dry concentrate/dry feed

The symbols and boundary conditions refer to the supplied fields and the implementation described above.

Limitations and assumptions

This uses measured mass and moisture rather than inferring yield from assays. Misaligned reporting periods, inventory changes and moisture bias are not corrected.

Numerical inputs must be finite. Input-shape and calculation checks do not establish measurement quality or the validity of a supplied calibration.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose Concentration Ratio when you need its operation: Infer concentrate yield and feed/concentrate mass ratio from a closed two-product assay balance; distinct from measured mass pull and assumes representative dry assays. Choose Grade Recovery Curve for the complementary operation: Build observed grade/recovery operating points from matched concentrate masses and assay fractions; points are separate trials, not additive products or a fitted optimization curve.
