Leaching Recovery

Infer leached metal from ore and changing residue mass/assay; accounts for mass loss with matched dry samples.

Description

A leach recovery balance compares initial ore metal with metal remaining in the residue.

A leach recovery balance compares initial ore metal with metal remaining in the residue. Residue mass may change during leaching, so comparing assays alone can misstate recovery.1

The tool returns initialMetalTonnes, residueMetalTonnes, leachedMetalTonnes, leachingRecoveryFraction. The computation uses supplied observations and parameters rather than acquiring measurements.

When to use Leaching Recovery

Use this for the following task: Infer leached metal from ore and changing residue mass/assay; accounts for mass loss with matched dry samples. Prepare observations and calibration parameters on the same unit and reporting basis.

How to use Leaching Recovery and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured quantities and supplied model parameters. Match the units and align paired lists before calculating.
  2. Enter initialDryOreTonnes, initialAssayFraction, residueDryTonnes, residueAssayFraction according to the field table, then run the tool.
  3. Read initialMetalTonnes, residueMetalTonnes, leachedMetalTonnes, leachingRecoveryFraction. Use the calculation below to interpret the selected mean or the model’s signs, units and comparison flags.
  4. Review the supplied assumptions and calibration before comparing or reporting the result.

Use positive initial dry ore and assay, nonnegative dry residue, and assay fractions in [0,1]. Reject a balance with residual metal exceeding initial metal.

initial metal = ore mass×ore assay; residual metal = residue mass×residue assay; recovery = 1−residual/initial

The symbols and boundary conditions refer to the supplied fields and the implementation described above.

Limitations and assumptions

Matched representative dry samples are required. The difference estimates removed metal without measuring dissolved product, entrainment or downstream collection losses.

Numerical inputs must be finite. Input-shape and calculation checks do not establish measurement quality or the validity of a supplied calibration.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose Metal Content when you need its operation: Calculate contained and recovered metal across dry-tonnage lots with grades in g/t; caller recovery fractions do not establish reserves or payable-metal terms. Choose Leaching Kinetics for the complementary operation: Evaluate ideal reaction-controlled shrinking-core leaching 1−(1−X)^(1/3)=kt capped at complete conversion; excludes diffusion control and reagent depletion.
