Comminution Energy

Predict corrected Bond net energy and power for supplied throughput; no-load mill power and hardware sizing are excluded.

Description

Bond comminution energy relates size reduction to a work index and the feed and product P80 sizes.

Bond comminution energy relates size reduction to a work index and the feed and product P80 sizes. Multiplicative corrections adapt the base relation, while throughput converts specific energy into net power.1

The tool returns netSpecificEnergyKwhPerTonne, netPowerKw. The computation uses supplied observations and parameters rather than acquiring measurements.

When to use Comminution Energy

Use this for the following task: Predict corrected Bond net energy and power for supplied throughput; no-load mill power and hardware sizing are excluded. Prepare observations and calibration parameters on the same unit and reporting basis.

How to use Comminution Energy and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured quantities and supplied model parameters. Match the units and align paired lists before calculating.
  2. Enter workIndexKwhPerTonne, feedP80Micrometers, productP80Micrometers, correctionFactors, throughputTonnesPerHour according to the field table, then run the tool.
  3. Read netSpecificEnergyKwhPerTonne, netPowerKw. Use the calculation below to interpret the selected mean or the model’s signs, units and comparison flags.
  4. Review the supplied assumptions and calibration before comparing or reporting the result.

Use positive work index, positive micrometre sizes with product smaller than feed, a nonempty list of positive corrections and nonnegative hourly throughput.

energy kWh/t = workIndex×(10/√productP80−10/√feedP80)×ΠcorrectionFactors; power kW = energy×t/h

The symbols and boundary conditions refer to the supplied fields and the implementation described above.

Limitations and assumptions

Corrections must match the intended circuit and tonne convention. Net power excludes no-load power and does not size a mill or account for motor efficiency.

Numerical inputs must be finite. Input-shape and calculation checks do not establish measurement quality or the validity of a supplied calibration.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose Bond Work Index when you need its operation: Infer Bond work index from measured net specific energy and feed/product P80; distinct from the laboratory ball-mill test correlation. Choose Bond Ball Mill Work Index for the complementary operation: Apply a supplied Bond ball-mill laboratory correlation to closing screen and grams/revolution; constant must match test protocol and tonne convention.
