Description

Map dateLabels into its indices, count recognized and unrecognized labels, and require strictly increasing recognized positions for hierarchyConsistent.

Manuscript and inscription tokens depend on editorial conventions for folios, sides, lacunae, and date labels. Parsing a convention preserves structure without interpreting the source text.

Map dateLabels into its indices, count recognized and unrecognized labels, and require strictly increasing recognized positions for hierarchyConsistent.

When to use this tool

Use Public Colophon Date Label Depth when you need a caller-defined manuscript notation or layout check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter dateLabels, suppliedOrder. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read recognized, unrecognized, hierarchyConsistent. Inspect hierarchyConsistent before interpreting the associated values.

Require a duplicate-free suppliedOrder. Map dateLabels into its indices, count recognized and unrecognized labels, and require strictly increasing recognized positions for hierarchyConsistent.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The hierarchy is caller defined; no calendar or colophon interpretation is performed. An empty label list is consistent by the implemented all-items test.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the edition's transcription and foliation policy and inspect the source image for textual interpretation.
