Timer Up Down Counter Turnaround Period Tool

Compute timer up down counter turnaround period from explicit bounded inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Use 2 × top ticks for an up/down cycle and multiply by prescaler / clockHz for periodSeconds.

Timer formulas depend on whether endpoints are inclusive, the count direction, prescaling, and wrap behavior. A counter reading alone cannot reveal an arbitrary number of elapsed wraps.

Use 2 × top ticks for an up/down cycle and multiply by prescaler / clockHz for periodSeconds.

When to use this tool

Use Timer Up Down Counter Turnaround Period when you need a timer period, wrap delta, or explicit count-budget term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter top, clockHz, prescaler. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ticks, periodSeconds. Use the output convention below.

Use 2 × top ticks for an up/down cycle and multiply by prescaler / clockHz for periodSeconds. Top and prescaler are positive integers.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes turnaround endpoints are not counted twice; device-specific update events and counter modes are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the timer mode and register semantics in the device documentation, including synchronization and latency.
