Microcontroller: I²C Seven Bit Wire Address Byte Tool

Build the first seven-bit I2C address/RW wire octet, retaining the distinction from eight-bit address notation; reserved address use is not certified.

Description

Require a seven-bit address from 0 through 127 and return 2 × address plus one for read or zero for write.

A seven-bit I²C address is distinct from the eight-bit wire byte containing that address and a read/write bit. The ninth clock carries acknowledgment from the receiver.

Require a seven-bit address from 0 through 127 and return 2 × address plus one for read or zero for write.

When to use this tool

Use Microcontroller: I²C Seven Bit Wire Address Byte when you need a basic I²C address or acknowledgment interpretation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter address, read. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require a seven-bit address from 0 through 127 and return 2 × address plus one for read or zero for write.1

The seven address bits are followed by the read/write bit. Keep the seven-bit address distinct from the resulting wire byte when configuring an API or interpreting a trace.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • This packs the address byte without checking reserved addresses, bus availability, or ten-bit addressing.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check reserved addressing rules and the device's transaction requirements, then inspect actual bus signals for diagnosis.
