Description
Return (firstReference / secondReference) × 2^(secondBits - firstBits) as lsbRatio.
Ideal ADC and DAC models connect digital codes to a reference span and quantization step. Coding, endpoint conventions, and reference behavior determine the meaning of a code-domain term.
Return (firstReference / secondReference) × 2^(secondBits - firstBits) as lsbRatio.
When to use this tool
Use ADC Reference Lsb Ratio when you need one explicit converter coding, resolution, or analog-model term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstReference, secondReference, firstBits, secondBits. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read lsbRatio. Use the output convention below.
Return (firstReference / secondReference) × 2^(secondBits - firstBits) as lsbRatio. Both references are positive and bit counts are 1-52.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstReference | First Reference | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| secondReference | Second Reference | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| firstBits | First Bits | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1; maximum 52. |
| secondBits | Second Bits | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1; maximum 52. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| lsbRatio | Lsb Ratio | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- References must use the same unit; this compares ideal LSB sizes without converter noise, calibration, or effective resolution.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare the ideal term with device transfer curves, noise, calibration, and acquisition requirements.
