Description

Multiply countedSquares by squareArea for countedArea.

Counts per field or area depend on the sampled denominator and any overlap or edge policy. Scaling a sampled density assumes the counted region represents the target region.

Multiply countedSquares by squareArea for countedArea.

When to use this tool

Use Micrograph Cell Count Grid Area Term when you need a transparent field, grid, or area-normalized count.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter count, countedSquares, squareArea, wholeImageArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read countedArea, density, imageEquivalentCount. Use the output convention below.

Multiply countedSquares by squareArea for countedArea. Divide count by that area for density and multiply density by wholeImageArea for imageEquivalentCount.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The image area must cover the counted area; extrapolation assumes representative sampling and does not report statistical uncertainty.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the original images and a documented sampling and counting protocol, with uncertainty analysis where needed.
