Microbial Count Exposure Share Tool

Calculate microbial count exposure share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return exposure / totalExposure and count times that share.

A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.

Return exposure / totalExposure and count times that share.

When to use this tool

Use Microbial Count Exposure Share when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter count, exposure, totalExposure. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read exposureShare, contribution. Use the output convention below.

Require exposure between zero and positive totalExposure. Return exposure / totalExposure and count times that share.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The contribution can be fractional; exposure units must match and the calculation is not a detection probability estimate.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
