Assay Count Support Gap Tool

Calculate assay count support gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Sum only flagged counts with exact integers and return observed, reference, and signed gap as decimal strings.

A residual is the signed difference between an observation and a declared reference or blank. Retaining its sign is useful for detecting overcorrection and incompatible measurement bases.

Sum only flagged counts with exact integers and return observed, reference, and signed gap as decimal strings.

When to use this tool

Use Assay Count Support Gap when you need an explicit assay residual or supported-count comparison.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter counts, validDenominator, referenceCounts. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read observedSupportedDecimal, referenceSupportedDecimal, gapDecimal. Use the output convention below.

Require aligned nonnegative integer count arrays and validDenominator flags. Sum only flagged counts with exact integers and return observed, reference, and signed gap as decimal strings.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Unflagged entries are omitted from both totals; denominator validity is supplied and no statistical test is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect measurement uncertainty, reporting qualifiers, and the original laboratory records before interpreting a discrepancy.
