Threshold Hit Miss Single Forecast Tool

Calculate threshold hit miss single forecast from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Classify actual and predicted by ≥ threshold when inclusive is true, otherwise by > threshold.

Threshold classification turns a numeric pair into a binary contingency outcome. An inclusive boundary treats equality differently from a strict threshold.

Classify actual and predicted by ≥ threshold when inclusive is true, otherwise by > threshold.

When to use this tool

Use Threshold Hit Miss Single Forecast when you need a one-pair contingency classification with an explicit boundary rule.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter actual, predicted, threshold, inclusive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read hit, falseAlarm, missed, correctNegative. Inspect hit, falseAlarm, missed, correctNegative before interpreting the associated values.

Classify actual and predicted by ≥ threshold when inclusive is true, otherwise by > threshold. Return the single matching hit, falseAlarm, missed, or correctNegative flag.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is one thresholded pair, not an aggregate rate, classifier calibration, or significance test.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Aggregate the full contingency table and evaluate threshold choice, class prevalence, and uncertainty separately.
