VIP Threshold Gate

Gate variable-importance scores against a supplied VIP minimum.

Description

VIP thresholding selects features from already computed model importance scores.

VIP thresholding selects features from already computed model importance scores. The gate does not fit a multivariate model or establish feature significance.1

Gate variable-importance scores against a supplied VIP minimum.

When to use VIP Threshold Gate

Use this tool to gate variable-importance scores against a supplied VIP minimum.

Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.

How to use VIP Threshold Gate and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.
  2. Enter vipScores, minimumVip using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read selectedIndexes, rejectedIndexes. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter nonnegative VIP scores and minimum. Return zero-based selected/rejected indexes in input order; threshold equality is selected and an empty list is allowed.

selected={i:VIP_i≥minimum}; rejected={i:VIP_i<minimum}

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No VIP calculation, uncertainty, multiple-testing correction or biomarker validation is performed.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Q Residual Gate: Flag samples exceeding a caller-selected Q-residual model-fit limit. For a complementary task, use Hotelling T2 Outlier: Detect PCA outliers by covariance-adjusted Hotelling T², not Euclidean radius.
