Lactate Glucose Yield

Compute apparent lactate yield per glucose and two-lactate carbon recovery.

Description

Lactate yield relates secreted lactate to consumed glucose.

Lactate yield relates secreted lactate to consumed glucose. A two-lactate-per-glucose reference supplies the percentage denominator.1

Compute apparent lactate yield per glucose and two-lactate carbon recovery.

When to use Lactate Glucose Yield

Use this tool to compute apparent lactate yield per glucose and two-lactate carbon recovery.

Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.

How to use Lactate Glucose Yield and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.
  2. Enter lactateSecretedMmol, glucoseConsumedMmol using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read lactatePerGlucose, carbonRecoveryPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
lactateSecretedMmolLactate secreted mmolnumberRequired
glucoseConsumedMmolGlucose consumed mmolnumberRequired

Enter nonnegative secreted lactate and positive consumed glucose in mmol. Return molar yield and reference carbon-recovery percentage.

yield=lactate/glucose; recovery%=100 yield/2

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The percentage may exceed 100. Other carbon sources, products and intracellular pools are not included in a complete balance.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Stoichiometric Flux Balance: Check S·v steady-state residuals against a supplied flux-balance tolerance. For a complementary task, use Lactate Pyruvate Ratio: Screen lactate/pyruvate redox proxy with a caller-supplied threshold.
