Library Copy Suffix Label Tool

Append a positive copy-number suffix to a literal shelfmark under an explicit c.N display convention.

Description

Require nonempty shelfmark and positive copyNumber, then append c.copyNumber for label.

Catalog identifiers and labels follow local formatting conventions. Splitting or recognizing a token's shape preserves structure without establishing that its identifier or classification is valid.

Require nonempty shelfmark and positive copyNumber, then append c.copyNumber for label.

When to use this tool

Use Library Copy Suffix Label when you need one explicit catalog-label parsing or formatting step.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter shelfmark, copyNumber. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Require nonempty shelfmark and positive copyNumber, then append c.copyNumber for label.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This formats a local copy suffix without checking duplication, catalog identity, classification syntax, or an institution's labeling rules.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the cataloging scheme and source record before assigning semantic meaning or a filing order.
