SPDC Heralded Rate

Estimate detected SPDC coincidence, singles, and heralding rates from supplied efficiencies.

Description

SPDC detection-rate budgeting assumes independent detection of each member of a generated pair.

SPDC detection-rate budgeting assumes independent detection of each member of a generated pair. Heralding efficiency conditions idler coincidences on signal singles.1

Estimate detected SPDC coincidence, singles, and heralding rates from supplied efficiencies.

When to use SPDC Heralded Rate

Use this tool to estimate detected SPDC coincidence, singles, and heralding rates from supplied efficiencies.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use SPDC Heralded Rate and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter generatedPairRatePerSecond, signalDetectionEfficiency, idlerDetectionEfficiency using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read coincidenceRatePerSecond, signalSinglesRatePerSecond, idlerHeraldingEfficiency. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
generatedPairRatePerSecondGenerated pair rate (pairs/s)number; minimum: 0Required
signalDetectionEfficiencySignal detection efficiencynumber; minimum: 0; maximum: 1Required
idlerDetectionEfficiencyIdler detection efficiencynumber; minimum: 0; maximum: 1Required

Enter nonnegative pair rate and efficiencies from zero to one. Return coincidence and signal-single rates and idler heralding efficiency. Zero singles return a zero efficiency placeholder.

coincidences=pairRate ηsηi; singles=pairRate ηs; heralding=coincidences/singles

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Dark counts, multi-pair events, losses outside supplied efficiencies and timing windows are excluded.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use HBT Correlation: Calculate normalized zero-delay HBT second-order correlation. For a complementary task, use Repeater-Link Success: Estimate independent quantum-repeater chain success across repeated attempts.
