DBR Tuning Span

Combine measured tuning contributions from DBR laser sections.

Description

DBR section tuning sums signed changes while separately tallying their absolute contributions.

DBR section tuning sums signed changes while separately tallying their absolute contributions. Opposing signs can cancel in the signed total.1

Combine measured tuning contributions from DBR laser sections.

When to use DBR Tuning Span

Use this tool to combine measured tuning contributions from DBR laser sections.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use DBR Tuning Span and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter sectionTuningContributionsGhz using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read signedTuningGhz, maximumIndependentSpanGhz. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter nonempty finite signed GHz contributions. Return both aggregate spans.

signed=Σcontributions; independentSpan=Σ|contributions|

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Independent controllability and simultaneous tuning range are not verified. No mode-hop or actuator model is included.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Mode-Hop Tuning Ratio: Calculate the current-to-grating tuning ratio needed for matched frequency change. For a complementary task, use Wavelength-Lock Selector: Select an absorption-cell, etalon, or hybrid wavelength lock from supplied requirements.
