Air-Biased THz Field
Subtract unbiased background and normalize an air-biased coherent THz field measurement.
Description
Air-biased field normalization subtracts an unbiased background before dividing by applied bias field.
Air-biased field normalization subtracts an unbiased background before dividing by applied bias field. Sign conventions affect both difference and quotient.1
Subtract unbiased background and normalize an air-biased coherent THz field measurement.
When to use Air-Biased THz Field
Use this tool to subtract unbiased background and normalize an air-biased coherent THz field measurement.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use Air-Biased THz Field and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter biasedFieldAmplitude, unbiasedFieldAmplitude, biasFieldVoltsPerMeter using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read biasInducedFieldAmplitude, normalizedResponsePerVoltMeter. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| biasedFieldAmplitude | Biased detected field | number | Required |
| unbiasedFieldAmplitude | Unbiased detected field | number | Required |
| biasFieldVoltsPerMeter | Applied bias field (V/m) | number | Required |
Enter finite signed amplitudes and nonzero bias in V/m. Return induced amplitude and normalized response.
induced=biased−unbiased; normalized=induced/biasField Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| biasInducedFieldAmplitude | Bias-induced field | number |
| normalizedResponsePerVoltMeter | Normalized response (m/V) | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
No THz waveform extraction, detector calibration or bias dependence is fitted.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use BOTDA Strain and Temperature: Separate strain and temperature change from two calibrated distributed-sensing shifts. For a complementary task, use Beat-Note Phase Noise: Calculate beat-note RMS phase noise and equivalent timing jitter.
