Weekly Training Monotony

Compute Foster training monotony and strain from daily session loads.

Description

Training monotony compares mean daily load with its variability.

Training monotony compares mean daily load with its variability. Strain multiplies that ratio by aggregate load for the supplied period.1

Compute Foster training monotony and strain from daily session loads.

When to use Weekly Training Monotony

Use this tool to compute Foster training monotony and strain from daily session loads.

Prepare the measured movement, timing, load or preassigned score requested. Keep protocols, units, paired measurements and caller-selected thresholds consistent.

How to use Weekly Training Monotony and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured movement, timing, load or preassigned score requested. Keep protocols, units, paired measurements and caller-selected thresholds consistent.
  2. Enter dailyLoads using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read meanLoad, populationStandardDeviation, monotony, weeklyStrain. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter at least two nonnegative loads with variation. Divide squared deviations by n and return mean, SD, monotony and strain. The tool accepts any list length, despite its weekly name.

monotony=mean/populationSD; strain=ΣdailyLoad×monotony

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Constant loads are rejected. No missing-day imputation, injury-risk model or automatic seven-day window is supplied.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Session RPE Training Load: Calculate session-RPE training load in arbitrary units. For a complementary task, use Acute Chronic Workload Ratio: Screen acute-to-chronic workload ratio using caller-supplied zone boundaries.
