Election Reporting Coverage

Audit election-reporting topic and source-count coverage.

Description

Election reporting coverage combines topic-label presence with minimum source counts.

Election reporting coverage combines topic-label presence with minimum source counts. A covered topic can still fall below the sourcing criterion.1

Audit election-reporting topic and source-count coverage.

When to use Election Reporting Coverage

Use this tool to audit election-reporting topic and source-count coverage.

Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.

How to use Election Reporting Coverage and understand its results

  1. Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.
  2. Enter requiredTopics, coveredTopics, minimumSourcesPerTopic, sourceCountsByRequiredTopic using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read missingTopics, underSourcedTopics, topicCoveragePercent, complete. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
requiredTopicsRequired election-reporting topicslist of stringRequired
coveredTopicsCovered election-reporting topicslist of stringRequired
minimumSourcesPerTopicMinimum sources per topicinteger; minimum: 0Required
sourceCountsByRequiredTopicSource counts in required-topic orderlist of numberRequired

Trim/lowercase required and covered topics; drop blank required labels but retain duplicates. Require nonempty required topics aligned with finite source counts and a nonnegative integer minimum. Return missing labels, covered-but-under-sourced labels, percentage and composite gate. Signed or fractional source counts are accepted.

coverage%=100coveredRequired/requiredCount; complete=noMissing AND noUnderSourced

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No election facts or source quality are verified. Supply meaningful counts; topic presence and count sufficiency are separate conditions.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Roundup Source Coverage: Measure source-category coverage in a roundup. For a complementary task, use Community Source Corroboration: Check community-source and independent-corroboration counts against supplied minimums.
