Periodic Node Coordinate Wrap

Wrap an explicit node coordinate into a supplied origin-inclusive periodic interval without interpolating values.

Description

Wrap a node coordinate into a supplied periodic origin interval.

Periodic coordinates repeat after a supplied positive period, so multiple positions can describe the same phase. Wrapping chooses one representative relative to an origin; it does not determine values between nodes. Floating-point subtraction and addition can affect representation near a periodic boundary.

When to use this tool

Use Periodic Node Coordinate Wrap when you already have coordinate, origin, period and need to wrap a node coordinate into a supplied periodic origin interval.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter coordinate, origin, period. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read wrappedCoordinate. Use the output convention below.

Require period>0; reduce coordinate-origin modulo period, adding period for a negative remainder, then add origin. If subtraction overflows, subtract separately reduced residues before wrapping.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Uses the nominal interval [origin, origin+period); floating-point addition may round at a boundary or reject a nonfinite result. No interpolation or node-value evaluation is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete periodic node set and the intended interpolation method when values or smoothness are needed. Preserve the origin, period and boundary policy before evaluating a model; coordinate wrapping alone supplies no interpolated value.
