Bilinear Level Set Edge Intersection Tool

Calculate bilinear level set edge intersection from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return (target - first)/(second - first) and an inclusive onEdge flag for parameters in [0, 1].

A bilinear cell combines constant, two linear, and one mixed coordinate term. Corner contrasts, stationary points, and edge intersections use normalized coordinates unless spans are supplied.

Return (target - first)/(second - first) and an inclusive onEdge flag for parameters in [0, 1].

When to use this tool

Use Bilinear Level Set Edge Intersection when you need one explicit bilinear coefficient, sensitivity, or level-set term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter first, second, target. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read parameter, onEdge. Inspect onEdge before interpreting the associated values.

Require distinct first and second edge values. Return (target - first)/(second - first) and an inclusive onEdge flag for parameters in [0, 1].1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Outside parameters are returned; a flat edge is rejected even when every edge point matches the target.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete cell model and a documented contour or interpolation policy when reconstructing a surface.
