Surplus Share Lines Capacity Scaling Lookup
Conditional surplus-share maximum capacity for integer lines and one retained line. Exact safe integer minor units; actual treaty acceptance, policy limits and risk retention are independently verified, not placement eligibility.
Description
A surplus-share capacity convention adds a retained line to a stated number of ceded lines.
A surplus-share capacity convention adds a retained line to a stated number of ceded lines.1
Capacity arithmetic alone does not determine which risks a treaty accepts.

How to use Surplus Share Lines Capacity Scaling Lookup and understand its results
- Establish the contract, jurisdiction, reporting basis, currency and dated evidence that apply.
- Enter retainedLineMinor, surplusLines, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.surplusCapacityMinor, result.totalCapacityMinor, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| retainedLineMinor | Retained line minor | number | Required |
| surplusLines | Surplus lines | number | Required |
Use a nonnegative safe-integer retained-line amount in minor units and integer ceded lines 0..1000000. Multiply exactly to return ceded capacity and total capacity including one retained line. Reject results outside the safe-integer monetary range. A zero line amount is allowed.
cededCapacity=lineMinor×cededLines; totalCapacity=lineMinor×(cededLines+1) Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Calculated observation or qualified reference | object |
| result.surplusCapacityMinor | surplus Capacity Minor | number |
| result.totalCapacityMinor | total Capacity Minor | number |

No treaty wording, risk acceptance or actual ceded premium is determined. All amounts require one declared currency and line definition.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use XOL Reinstatement Premium Pro Rata Lookup: A reinstatement-premium calculation can combine a used-limit proportion with a time proportion under specified contract terms. For a complementary comparison, use Treaty vs Facultative Placement Selector Lookup: Treaty reinsurance covers a defined portfolio/class under an agreement; facultative reinsurance concerns individually negotiated risks.
