Filing Expiration
Calculate a financial-responsibility filing expiration from a supplied duration.
Description
A filing expiration model adds a supplied month duration to a start date and compares an as-of date.
A filing expiration model adds a supplied month duration to a start date and compares an as-of date. Completed months remaining can be zero before expiration.1
Calculate a financial-responsibility filing expiration from a supplied duration.
When to use Filing Expiration
Use this tool to calculate a financial-responsibility filing expiration from a supplied duration.
Prepare the supplied policy terms, dates, assumptions or recorded indicators requested. Keep monetary amounts on one currency basis and select the applicable thresholds separately.
How to use Filing Expiration and understand its results
- Prepare the supplied policy terms, dates, assumptions or recorded indicators requested. Keep monetary amounts on one currency basis and select the applicable thresholds separately.
- Enter filingStartDate, requiredDurationMonths, asOfDate using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read expirationDate, monthsRemaining, expired. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| filingStartDate | Filing start date | string | Required |
| requiredDurationMonths | Required filing duration (months) | integer; minimum: 0 | Required |
| asOfDate | As-of date | string | Required |
Enter parseable UTC date strings and nonnegative integer months. Calculate remaining calendar months with a day-of-month adjustment, clipped at zero. Return expiration, months remaining and inclusive expired flag. As-of may precede start.
expiration=start plus months using setUTCMonth; expired=asOf≥expiration Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| expirationDate | Filing expiration date | string |
| monthsRemaining | Whole months remaining | integer; minimum: 0 |
| expired | Filing has expired | boolean |
{
"input": {
"filingStartDate": "2025-01-01",
"requiredDurationMonths": 12,

},
"output": {
"expirationDate": "2026-01-01",

} Limitations and assumptions
Native parsing can normalize dates, and month addition can overflow shorter months. No statutory filing duration, cancellation, notice or live filing status is checked.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
