Description
Choose an ontology label by preferred language then fallback language.
Information records distinguish identifiers, controlled vocabularies, language fallbacks, assertion times and valid times. A supplied inverse predicate differs from an inferred semantic relation. Text offsets require an explicit code-point or code-unit basis, and a metadata count check does not validate field content or an entire schema.
Choose an ontology label by preferred language then fallback language.
When to use this tool
Use Ontology Label Language Fallback Choice when you already have availableLanguages, labels, preferredLanguage, fallbackLanguage and need to choose an ontology label by preferred language then fallback language.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter availableLanguages, labels, preferredLanguage, fallbackLanguage. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read selectedLabel, selectedLanguage, found. Inspect found before interpreting the associated values.
Require aligned language/label lists and unique language keys. Prefer an exact preferredLanguage match, otherwise fallback; return selected strings or empty strings with found=false.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| availableLanguages | Available Languages | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| labels | Labels | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| preferredLanguage | Preferred Language | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| fallbackLanguage | Fallback Language | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| selectedLabel | Selected Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| selectedLanguage | Selected Language | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| found | True even for a found empty label; false distinguishes the empty placeholder when neither language is present. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A found label can itself be empty. No language-tag matching, translation, vocabulary validation or label quality assessment is performed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the actual record, vocabulary authority and complete metadata schema for semantic or conformance questions. Apply the identifier scheme's real comparison rules and the intended language/offset policy rather than inferring them from a local string operation.
