Description
Compare two measured seam gaps against a supplied difference tolerance.
Product geometry depends on reference surfaces, mating dimensions, signed offsets, compression assumptions and material behavior. A clearance comparison or nominal engagement depth describes a limited scalar relation. Physical fit, ergonomics, sealing, strength and electrical compatibility need the complete product and its verified conditions.
Compare two measured seam gaps against a supplied difference tolerance.
When to use this tool
Use Product Seam Gap Comparison when you already have firstMeasuredGap, secondMeasuredGap, suppliedTolerance and need to compare two measured seam gaps against a supplied difference tolerance.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstMeasuredGap, secondMeasuredGap, suppliedTolerance. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read secondMinusFirst, withinSuppliedDifference. Inspect withinSuppliedDifference before interpreting the associated values.
Require nonnegative gaps/tolerance; return second-first and abs(second-first)<=tolerance.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstMeasuredGap | First Measured Gap | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| secondMeasuredGap | Second Measured Gap | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| suppliedTolerance | Supplied Tolerance | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| secondMinusFirst | Second Minus First | Required. Finite number. |
| withinSuppliedDifference | Absolute difference<=tolerance, including equality; not product acceptance to an external standard. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Equality passes; the tolerance is assumed and no product specification, process capability or actual conformance is established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect actual component specifications and a complete dimensioned assembly for design decisions. Add material, loading, tolerance and operating-condition analysis when a local gap, radius ratio or supplied compression fraction cannot establish performance.
