Consented Use Expiry Offset Tool

Compare supplied use time to an exclusive consent expiry boundary without making a legal determination.

Description

Subtract useAt from expiry for remaining and mark expired when useAt is greater than or equal to expiry.

Cultural and community records can carry access, attribution, quotation, and publication permissions. Preserving a supplied label does not create permission or override community protocols, source conditions, or an individual's stated preferences.

Subtract useAt from expiry for remaining and mark expired when useAt is greater than or equal to expiry.

When to use this tool

Use Consented Use Expiry Offset when you need to record a supplied attribution or access statement without expanding its scope.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter expiry, useAt. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remaining, expired. Inspect expired before interpreting the associated values.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Both inputs share one time coordinate and unit; expiry is exclusive, and numeric comparison does not verify valid consent, community protocols, or rights to use material.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Confirm the original permission, community protocol, and intended use with the responsible people before sharing material.
