Description
Count Unicode code points in excerpt and subtract used from nonnegative integer authorizedCodePointLimit for gap.
Cultural and community records can carry access, attribution, quotation, and publication permissions. Preserving a supplied label does not create permission or override community protocols, source conditions, or an individual's stated preferences.
Count Unicode code points in excerpt and subtract used from nonnegative integer authorizedCodePointLimit for gap.
When to use this tool
Use Authorized Excerpt Length Gap when you need to record a supplied attribution or access statement without expanding its scope.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter excerpt, authorizedCodePointLimit. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read used, gap. Use the output convention below.

} Limitations and assumptions
- Combining marks count separately, so this is not a grapheme count. A supplied limit and a nonnegative gap do not establish quotation or publication rights.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
