Hydroponic Grow Media Water Holding Fraction

Normalize explicit retained-water volume to compatible media bulk volume under a caller-supplied measurement basis.

Loading tool…

Description

Calculate retained water as a fraction of supplied media bulk volume.

Hydroponic records distinguish reservoir volumes, catch rates, media volume, nominal pump displacement and chemical reference labels. A top-up share can use final rather than initial volume, while a pH difference is not a chemical-dose calculation. Supplied parameters do not establish water quality, crop suitability or hydraulic performance.

Calculate retained water as a fraction of supplied media bulk volume.

When to use this tool

Use Hydroponic Grow Media Water Holding Fraction when you already have retainedWaterVolume, mediaBulkVolume and need to calculate retained water as a fraction of supplied media bulk volume.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter retainedWaterVolume, mediaBulkVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, remainder. Use the output convention below.

Require bulk volume>0 and retainedWaterVolume within total; return water/bulk and bulk-water.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a nominal volume share, not a measured porosity, available-water capacity, saturation state or crop recommendation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated water and flow observations, actual reservoir geometry and the complete intended chemical or hydraulic model. Preserve concentration, temperature-reference and time bases; local offsets and volume shares do not choose nutrient, pH or irrigation adjustments.
