Description
Record a supplied precipitation-phase code and source.
Weather accumulation records need explicit reset, carry, observation-time and area-weight conventions. Trace or missing precipitation differs from measured zero, and radar dBZ must be converted to a linear basis before a linear reflectivity mean. Supplied density, timing and weighting terms do not create a forecast or verify actual weather conditions.
Record a supplied precipitation-phase code and source.
When to use this tool
Use Rain Snow Observation Source Code when you already have observationId, phaseCode, codebookSource and need to record a supplied precipitation-phase code and source.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observationId, phaseCode, codebookSource. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read token. Use the output convention below.
Enter observationId, phaseCode, codebookSource using the field constraints below. Encode these values, in exactly that order, as a JSON array and return the serialized array as text in token. String values are preserved without trimming or external terminology lookup.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| observationId | Observation Id | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| phaseCode | Phase Code | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| codebookSource | Codebook Source | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| token | Token | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The result records supplied values without inferring phase from temperature. Sources and asserted relationships are not independently authenticated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the original gauge/radar series, clock and accumulation metadata, including resets and missing intervals. Use the complete spatial or process model for basin precipitation, snow or forecasting; local depth contributions and reference gaps do not infer unobserved weather.
