colgroup span Count Calculator

Counts colgroup columns from normalized positive spans (at most 1000 each). When col children exist their spans determine the count and a group span attribute is nonconforming.

Description

Colgroup describes columns through its own span or through child col spans.

Colgroup describes columns through its own span or through child col spans. When children exist, their spans control the count.1

Counts colgroup columns from normalized positive spans (at most 1000 each). When col children exist their spans determine the count and a group span attribute is nonconforming.

When to use colgroup span Count Calculator

Use this for the following task: Counts colgroup columns from normalized positive spans (at most 1000 each). When col children exist their spans determine the count and a group span attribute is nonconforming.

Prepare the parsed attribute values, element states or ordered local lists requested below. Keep attribute presence separate from value.

How to use colgroup span Count Calculator and understand its results

  1. Prepare the parsed attribute values, element states or ordered local lists requested below. Keep attribute presence separate from value.
  2. Enter hasGroupSpan, groupSpan, childSpans using the field table, then run the tool.
  3. Read columnCount, groupSpanAllowed. Interpret flags, units, ordering and placeholder values using the rules below.
  4. Review any reported issue or failed check, correct the supplied values when appropriate, and verify the result in its intended context.
Input fieldMeaningValue type and boundsRequirement
hasGroupSpanHas Group SpanbooleanRequired
groupSpanGroup Spaninteger; minimum 1; maximum 1000Required
childSpansChild Spanslist of integer; minimum entries 0; maximum entries 10000; each entry: integer; minimum 1; maximum 1000Required

Supply normalized positive spans. Sum child spans when nonempty and mark groupSpanAllowed false; otherwise apply the presence flag and default.2

columnCount = sum(childSpans), otherwise groupSpan if present, otherwise 1

This summarizes the declared operation. Units, indexing, inclusivity and exceptional cases are explained in the surrounding text.

Limitations and assumptions

Spans are limited to 1000 each. The tool does not parse tables or resolve actual cell positions.

This evaluates supplied local information; it does not fetch a page or run a browser. Malformed requests produce input errors. A successfully evaluated request can still contain false flags, empty result lists or a result outside the supplied threshold; those outcomes have the meanings stated above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose td colspan/rowspan Grid Coverage Validator for this operation: Checks explicit cell rectangles within one bounded table row group using zero-based starts and normalized colspan/rowspan. Rowspan 0 reaches the group end. At most 10,000 grid slots and 1000 cells are allowed; this does not derive cell positions from HTML. For a complementary task, use caption vs summary Deprecated Lookup for this operation: Classifies a table caption element versus the obsolete summary attribute for current authoring conformance. This reports syntax status and caption semantics only.
