Blackout Cloth Install Area Calculator
Rectangular blackout cloth blank with measured side drops and edge overlaps; excludes seams and support design.
Description
Calculate one rectangular blackout-cloth blank including declared drops and overlaps.
A single rectangular blackout-cloth blank may need allowances for both side drops and overlap. This calculator estimates the area under its explicit two-sided allowance convention.
When to use this tool
Calculate one rectangular blackout-cloth blank including declared drops and overlaps. Use it when the input measurements and conventions below match the operation you need.
- Prepare lengthM, widthM, sideDropM, overlapM, respecting the measurement basis and boundaries below.
- Compare the worked example with your intended operation before reusing its result.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter every field in the input table using the stated units and exact supported selector spelling where applicable.
- Run the tool. Correct input errors before interpreting an output.
- Read the result fields below; use accompanying flags and the stated sign, boundary or model convention when interpreting a number.
Tunnel length and width must be positive; sideDropM and overlapM nonnegative. The tool multiplies (length plus twice the drop plus twice the overlap) by (width plus twice the drop plus twice the overlap).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| lengthM | Length m. Meters. | Finite number |
| widthM | Width m. Meters. | Finite number |
| sideDropM | Side drop m. Meters. | Finite number |
| overlapM | Overlap m. Meters. | Finite number |
| Output field | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| result | Object containing the following named result fields. |
| result.blankAreaM2 | Blank area m2; use the stated units and sign convention. |

"result": {

} Limitations and assumptions
- The result is one rectangular blank area. Seams, separate panels, fabric orientation, vents, attachment details and cutting waste are not optimized.
- Every declared field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; input errors are distinct from a valid false result or an explicitly qualified output.
- Extremely large inputs and nonfinite or excessively large outputs are rejected. List positions reported by the tool use zero-based indices unless stated otherwise.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Match the supplied measurements and reference context to the actual crop, material and site. A dimensional calculation or retrieved record is not a substitute for inspecting plant condition and applicable product instructions. Compare the scope of the nearby tools below before substituting one.
