Provenance Ownership Event Sequence Screen
Validate chronological provenance-event dates and screen their documentary gaps against an explicit maximum; it does not establish legal ownership or authenticity.
Description
A provenance sequence screen measures the time between supplied ownership events.
A provenance sequence screen measures the time between supplied ownership events. Chronological completeness is separate from authenticity of those events.1
Validate chronological provenance-event dates and screen their documentary gaps against an explicit maximum; it does not establish legal ownership or authenticity.
When to use Provenance Ownership Event Sequence Screen
Use this tool to validate chronological provenance-event dates and screen their documentary gaps against an explicit maximum; it does not establish legal ownership or authenticity.
Choose a supported lookup focus or prepare the measured values, documented evidence and caller-selected limits requested. Use the exact field names and confirm their units or date format.
How to use Provenance Ownership Event Sequence Screen and understand its results
- Choose a supported lookup focus or prepare the measured values, documented evidence and caller-selected limits requested. Use the exact field names and confirm their units or date format.
- Enter eventDates, maximumAllowedGapDays using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read dateRangeDays, eventCount, gapsDays, maximumGapDays, withinCallerGapLimit. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| eventDates | Dates must use YYYY-mm-DD and be supplied in chronological order. | list of string | Required |
| maximumAllowedGapDays | Maximum allowed documentary gap (d) | integer; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter at least two strict valid YYYY-MM-DD dates in nondecreasing order and nonnegative safe integer gap maximum. Parse UTC midnight with round-trip date validation; same-day events are allowed. Return event count, adjacent gaps, largest gap, total span and inclusive gate.
gaps_i=(date_i−date_(i−1))/day; within=max(gaps)≤maximum Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| dateRangeDays | First-to-last event range (d) | integer; minimum: 0 |
| eventCount | Event count | integer; minimum: 2 |
| gapsDays | Inter-event gaps (d) | list of number |
| maximumGapDays | Maximum inter-event gap (d) | integer; minimum: 0 |
| withinCallerGapLimit | Within caller gap limit | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
No events are sorted, documents authenticated, owners resolved or missing transactions discovered.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Watch Serial Number Format Component Parser: Parse a generic prefix-numeric-suffix watch serial format without assigning a brand, decade, production date, or model from the number alone. For a complementary task, use Refinished Dial Evidence Screen: Organize explicit evidence into replacement, refinished original, supported original, or insufficient-evidence dial classifications without inventing a value penalty.
