Heat Bluing Temperature Table Reader

Read a target temperature from a caller-supplied heat-bluing color table while preserving material, time, heating-rate, surface, and lighting limitations.

Description

A heat-bluing color table describes caller-supplied temperature bands.

A heat-bluing color table describes caller-supplied temperature bands. Color interpretation also depends on alloy, preparation, exposure and lighting.1

Read a target temperature from a caller-supplied heat-bluing color table while preserving material, time, heating-rate, surface, and lighting limitations.

When to use Heat Bluing Temperature Table Reader

Use this tool to read a target temperature from a caller-supplied heat-bluing color table while preserving material, time, heating-rate, surface, and lighting limitations.

Choose a supported reference focus or prepare the watch measurements, evidence and explicit limits requested. Confirm units and date conventions before running.

How to use Heat Bluing Temperature Table Reader and understand its results

  1. Choose a supported reference focus or prepare the watch measurements, evidence and explicit limits requested. Confirm units and date conventions before running.
  2. Enter bandNames, targetTemperatureCelsius, temperatureBands using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read matchedBandCelsius, matchedBandIndex, matchedBandName, tableCaveat. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
bandNamesBand names correspond by index to temperatureBands rows.list of stringRequired
targetTemperatureCelsiusTarget metal temperature (degC)numberRequired
temperatureBandsRows contain [minimum Celsius, maximum Celsius] and must be ordered.list of list of numberRequired

Enter nonempty ordered, nonoverlapping two-value bands and aligned names with finite target temperature. Touching boundaries are allowed; gaps are allowed but an unmatched target is an error. Return zero-based index, name, bounds and caution.

match first band containing target; [minimum, maximum), final band includes maximum

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No universal steel color chart or heating process is supplied.

Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Grand Feu Enamel Crack Risk Factor Lookup: Return Grand Feu thermal-stress, repeated-firing, inspection, preparation, or color-dependence crack-risk factors without inventing a failure percentage. For a complementary task, use Balance Rim Thermal Expansion Change Calculator: Calculate linear thermal expansion of a balance rim from its diameter, material coefficient, and signed temperature change.
