Archival Page Sequence Increment Tool

Increment a literal nonnegative archival page number, optionally retaining minimum zero-padding width.

Description

Parse pageDigits as 1-128 decimal digits and add the signed decimal-integer increment exactly, requiring a nonnegative result.

Source-scoped cultural and historical records preserve an edition, naming convention, or local identifier. Literal agreement is useful bookkeeping but does not establish interpretation, authenticity, or authority.

When to use this tool

Use Archival Page Sequence Increment when you need a precise source-token or range consistency check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pageDigits, increment, preserveWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result, widthChanged. Inspect widthChanged before interpreting the associated values.

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
pageDigits1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above.
incrementSigned exact decimal-integer string under the supported grammar.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above.
preserveWidthPreserve WidthRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
resultResulting page-number string, optionally zero-padded to the original width.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
widthChangedWidth ChangedRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Leading zeros are retained only under preserveWidth; numbering is numeric and does not resolve foliation, missing pages, mixed labels, or source authenticity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods
