Description
Select the reported length using reportCurved and return the path difference.
Reptile and amphibian morphometrics use landmarks, measurement paths, image scales, and supplied correction models. A numeric adjustment does not establish anatomy, growth, health, or animal welfare.
Select the reported length using reportCurved and return the path difference.
When to use this tool
Use Carapace Measure Path Base Flag when you need one documented animal measurement component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter straightLength, curvedLength, reportCurved. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read reportedLength, pathDifference. Use the output convention below.
Require curvedLength at least nonnegative straightLength. Select the reported length using reportCurved and return the path difference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| straightLength | Straight Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| curvedLength | Curved Length | Required. Finite number. |
| reportCurved | Report Curved | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| reportedLength | Reported Length | Required. Finite number. |
| pathDifference | Path Difference | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Lengths share units; the flag preserves a measurement-path choice without converting anatomy, correcting size, or assessing animal condition.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check measurement conventions, species-specific evidence, uncertainty, and appropriate animal-care expertise before biological or welfare decisions.
