Description
Convert an egg-cluster pixel area using a squared linear calibration.
Reptile and amphibian records distinguish specimen identity, anatomical measurement, observation effort, date uncertainty and location protection. Unobserved status differs from recorded absence, while a call-overlap label uses supplied intervals. These local records and geometric terms do not identify a species, infer health or establish adequate field practice.
Convert an egg-cluster pixel area using a squared linear calibration.
When to use this tool
Use Amphibian Eggcluster Image Area Scale when you already have clusterPixelArea, referencePixelLength, referenceLength and need to convert an egg-cluster pixel area using a squared linear calibration.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter clusterPixelArea, referencePixelLength, referenceLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read clusterPhysicalArea. Use the output convention below.
Require pixel area>=0, referencePixelLength>0 and referenceLength>=0; return area*(referenceLength/referencePixelLength)².1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| clusterPixelArea | Cluster Pixel Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| referencePixelLength | Reference Pixel Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referenceLength | Nonnegative physical reference length; zero yields zero area. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| clusterPhysicalArea | clusterPixelArea*(referenceLength/referencePixelLength)^2 under isotropic image calibration. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Assumes an isotropic linear scale; a zero physical reference returns zero area. No image, egg count, species or calibration validity is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original observations, specimens, calibrated images and survey logs for substantive interpretation. Use the appropriate complete biological or survey method, and protect underlying location data; local labels and display replacements do not perform those tasks.
