Blood Film Field Area Calibration Tool

Scale an explicit blood-film pixel area by the square of a supplied linear calibration without identifying cells.

Description

Convert blood-film pixel area to physical area using the square of a supplied linear scale.

Laboratory records connect specimen or analyzer identifiers, measurement scales, codes and source versions. A code label and an image-area calibration describe different parts of that record. Neither replaces examination of a blood film, calibrated laboratory methods or clinical interpretation of a result.

Convert blood-film pixel area to physical area using the square of a supplied linear scale.

When to use this tool

Use Blood Film Field Area Calibration when checking the stated laboratory metadata or image-scale convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter fieldPixelArea, referencePixelLength, referencePhysicalLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read physicalFieldArea. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative fieldPixelArea/referencePhysicalLength and positive referencePixelLength. Return fieldPixelArea*(physicalReference/pixelReference)² as calibrated area.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
fieldPixelAreaField Pixel AreaRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
referencePixelLengthReference Pixel LengthRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
referencePhysicalLengthNonnegative length corresponding to the reference pixel span; zero is accepted.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
physicalFieldAreaField area in squared physical-reference length units, assuming isotropic pixel scaling.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes a common isotropic linear image scale; no microscope/image calibration, representative sampling or clinical interpretation is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified laboratory records and calibrated measurements, with qualified laboratory/medical interpretation for actual results and care decisions.
