Healthcare Identifier Leading Zero Preservation Tool

Preserve a supplied decimal healthcare identifier as text and count leading zeros without converting it to a number or verifying identity.

Description

Preserve a decimal healthcare identifier as text and count its initial zeros.

Health-information systems separate identifiers, code-system namespaces, source versions, missing-value states and reference syntax. Recording a mapping or recognizing a restricted token does not validate its clinical meaning or a complete HL7/FHIR resource. Explicit null, empty text, unknown status and numeric zero are different states.

Preserve a decimal healthcare identifier as text and count its initial zeros.

When to use this tool

Use Healthcare Identifier Leading Zero Preservation when checking the stated restricted health-data record, token or transition convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter identifierText. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read preservedIdentifier, leadingZeroCount. Use the output convention below.

Require a nonempty ASCII digit string. Preserve it verbatim and count its initial zeros, including every zero in an all-zero identifier.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
identifierTextIdentifier TextRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
preservedIdentifierPreserved IdentifierRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
leadingZeroCountAll initial zero characters, including every character when the identifier consists only of zeros.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • No numeric conversion, check-digit validation, identity match or authoritative identifier lookup is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended complete interoperability specification, authoritative terminology and verified source records for actual resource validation, semantic mapping or clinical use.
