Description
Subtract first from second cost and outcome.
Health-economic costs depend on resource definitions, perspective, currency, price year, and timing. An incremental or discounted model term uses supplied assumptions without proving treatment benefit or determining an adoption decision.
Subtract first from second cost and outcome.
When to use this tool
Use Cost Per Outcome Increment when you need one transparent health-economic cost or comparison component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstCost, secondCost, firstOutcome, secondOutcome. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read costIncrement, outcomeIncrement, costPerIncrement, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.
Subtract first from second cost and outcome. Divide costIncrement by outcomeIncrement when nonzero, otherwise return costPerIncrement zero with defined false.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstCost | First Cost | Required. Finite number. |
| secondCost | Second Cost | Required. Finite number. |
| firstOutcome | First Outcome | Required. Finite number. |
| secondOutcome | Second Outcome | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| costIncrement | Cost Increment | Required. Finite number. |
| outcomeIncrement | Outcome Increment | Required. Finite number. |
| costPerIncrement | Signed cost/effect ratio, or zero placeholder when defined is false. | Required. Finite number. |
| defined | Whether the associated ratio has its required denominator; inspect before using a zero placeholder. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Zero ratio is a placeholder for no effect difference; signed effect direction and cost bases must match and no adoption threshold, uncertainty, or clinical advice is supplied.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
