SHAKE128 Hash Generator
Generate a variable-length SHAKE128 extendable-output digest from UTF-8 text with 128-bit collision-security capacity.
Description
Calculate a variable-length SHAKE digest from UTF-8 text and display it as lowercase hexadecimal.
SHAKE128 Hash Generator converts Unicode text to UTF-8 bytes and calculates a variable-length SHAKE result. SHAKE128 is an extendable-output function: after absorbing the padded UTF-8 message, it can squeeze as many output bytes as requested. Its security strength is bounded independently of the chosen display length.1
When to use SHAKE128 Hash Generator
Use this exact variant when a protocol, file manifest, blockchain, test vector, or interoperating system names it. Hash names and output sizes are not interchangeable even when they belong to the same family.
How SHAKE128 Hash Generator works
SHAKE128 is an extendable-output function: after absorbing the padded UTF-8 message, it can squeeze as many output bytes as requested. Its security strength is bounded independently of the chosen display length.1
How the SHAKE128 function processes input
- Encode the entered text as UTF-8 bytes.
- Process the bytes with the selected algorithm and its exact parameters.
- Render the result in the canonical textual form shown by the tool.
Limitations and assumptions
- A bare digest detects changes but does not authenticate who supplied the data.
- Do not use a fast general-purpose digest directly for password storage.
- Character encoding, Unicode normalization, whitespace, and line endings change the input bytes.
Alternative or Complementary approaches
Use SHA-256 for broad modern interoperability, HMAC when a shared secret must authenticate data, or a dedicated checksum when only accidental transmission errors are in scope.
